Sankofa's mission is to provide an online educational resource of on-demand experiences, activities and tasks designed for families that help them connect history to current realities. The Sankofa Explorations curriculum exposes families to content not taught in the schools and it presents culturally meaningful tasks that force families to interact in unique bonding ways.
Sankofa believes that it is critical that we intentionally pay attention to everything that impacts our lives. It is not good enough to pass things off as "coincidental" or " things that happen by chance". How we interpret what occurs in our life is reflected in how we respond to it and move throughout each and every day. It is important to be able to connect current events to history and use those connections to establish a lifestyle that ensures the legacy of each participating family.
Sankofa Educational Enrichment Program in 1992 as a 4-year program for high school students where critical thinking is taught through African and African American history. Sankofa closed as an in-person Saturday school in 2010. During the pandemic in 2020, I felt as though Sankofa was needed and I took steps to organize this online program focused on family participation.
You answered the call and we are thrilled to meet you and have you join the Sankofa Family. There will be a lot to learn, so be patient with yourself and get ready for this new adventure.
WELCOME!
