Sankofa is made up of a team of people who are dedicated to providing enriching engaging ways for families to interact and strengthen family relationships, while at the same time learning historical information that is not always emphasized or found in history classes. This team wants you to ask the questions that will embolden your presence in the world and it wants to give you the pride and confidence to stand tall and firm given any circumstance you find yourself.
Highly passionate about mathematics and the education of children, Dr. Kimya Moyo has taught with the Cincinnati Public Schools for 25 years. She has spent the past twelve years working with high school math students as a Title I math teacher at Cincinnati’s Cristo Rey High School. The ambition of this National Board Certified Teacher has provided her with the confidence to establish her own cultural response to instruction. Dr. Moyo raps mathematics, infuses history into the classroom, makes connections through math stem projects, and engages parents in empowerment sessions. Recently, she has been involved in a growth mindset study and is currently supporting algebra teachers using the growth mindset philosophy as their major instructional format. In 1992, Dr. Moyo opened the Sankofa Educational Enrichment Program which was a four-year Saturday school that taught critical thinking through African and African American history.
